Personal: “Just a Stay at Home Mom”

Years ago, I had a different life. My afternoons were filled with NBC on-air interviews in the dug-out with personalities like Lou Piniella or Ichiro or if I was lucky, a post-game interview with Alex Rodriguez. Soon after, my thoughts were deeply entrenched in marketing and making corporate sales to men in suits that represented big businesses…all to increase Seahawks revenue and to fill the seats at Qwest Field. And occasionally, I was a part of a little boy’s dream by being able to introduce him to his favorite professional athlete or hero. I shopped, I dined, I worked, and I played. Being single in Seattle was the life. So I thought…

I found him, and my life changed. Suddenly my designer shoes and expensive Dolce & Gabana work suits didn’t matter so much. Marriage, children, and the little white picket fence became my priority. I finally became what I always wanted to be; a mom.

However, for some reason, the world didn’t see my new job description as desirable. Friends thought I was crazy for giving up a dream career. As I saw some of my old colleagues on TV, I was shocked that they suddenly lost interest in daily phone calls and updates in my little world.  After all, I was just a “stay at home mom”.

Well I have news for the world.  I am more than just a stay at home mom.  Sure, I went from Nordstroms to Target, full nights sleep to no nights sleep, or designer brands to diaper brands.  But I have more job descriptions to add to my resume.

I am a boo-boo fixer and a tickler.  I am a nightmare comforter and a teacher.  I am a nursery rhyme singer and a macaroni and cheese maker.  I am a taxi driver and a snuggler.

I am a Mother.  And I wouldn’t trade it for any other job in the world.
